Can I just take individual courses instead of
a certificate series of classes?
Yes, most classes are individually
available on a "first come, first served" basis.
Do I need to be admitted to PSU to take EPP
Classes?
You do not need to be admitted
to PSU to take our classes.
For courses with a credit option, how do I apply
for graduate credit?
If you are not enrolled
as a PSU student and would like to take a course for graduate
credit (if optional), you will need to complete a quick entry
form which can be found on the PSU website at http://www.pdx.edu/admissions/ugrad_qkentry.html.
If you will be taking more than 8 credits per term you must
be admitted to PSU.
What is a Professional Certificate Curriculum?
EPP's Professional Certificate
Programs are a professionally formatted series of courses
and workshops incorporated into a complete curriculum. They
feature a mix of the latest science, engineering, policy,
and practice techniques for the course topic. All of the Certificate
Programs are developed by The Environmental Professional Development
Program staff as well as university and public/private advisors
in cooperation with a broad base of respected and dedicated
instructors.
How will a Certificate benefit me?
The Certificate is a demonstration
of your commitment and interest, your familiarity with highly
esteemed instructors, and your knowledge of the integrated
Certificate content. Additionally, the trainings provide a
rich source of contacts that you make with your instructors
and professional classmates. Your Certificate can be useful
as you market your skills (while your employer or your business
can use your Certificate to demonstrate the qualifications
of its staff).
How do I begin a Certificate Program?
Begin any time by taking any
course; nearly all the courses apply to at least one Certificate.
Take the specific courses that you most need or that fits
your career path. Your particular Certificate series should
take on a life of its own as you build the skills that will
best position you in your special area.
Can I get career advice in these fields?
Your employer may be a good
source for career advancement advice. We also provide career
consultation as a service. As you build on your training experiences,
prominently display the individual classes and Certificates
in your resume (don't forget the names of your well known
instructors!). Contact Dick Dewey, Director, EPP (deweyr@pdx.edu)
at 503-725-5388 for an appointment.
How do I get my certificate once completed?
As you take the individual
courses, keep track of the required and elective courses that
you need for a professional Certificate. When you have completed
the Certificate requirements simply apply for your Certificate.
EPP will verify the completion of the courses and award the
Certificate. There are currently no special applications or
additional administrative fees.
Can I earn more than one Certificate?
Yes, in most instances one
or more courses in one Certificate also apply to a second
or third Certificate.
What is the cost of a Certificate?
The cost of your professional
Certificate is the sum total of the individual offerings that
you complete. There are currently no administrative costs
or special application fees.
What do I Bring to Class?
You will receive an e-mail
prior to the start of class explaining what you need to bring
and other information.
What is your cancellation policy?
For a student to cancel their
registration and receive a full refund, minus a $50 non-refundable
administrative fee, PSU/EPP must receive written notice at
least two weeks prior to the course. Cancellations in writing
after that time, but more than a week prior to the course,
will receive a 50% refund. No refunds can be provided for
cancellations five working days prior to a course.
Can you recomend a hotel in my price range?
We recommend the beautiful
new PSU owned University Place. It is only a few blocks from
campus and has all the services of a fine hotel, including
a pool and exercise room. Be sure to tell them the PSU class
you are taking to receive an excellent rate ($79 at this writing).
